Birds, Bees, and Butterflies: Designing a Pollinator and Bird Habitat in Your Yard

Students and their parents will work together to reimagine their yard and design a pollinator garden. They will learn the importance of creating pollinator/bird habitat, how to create it, and use the design process to develop concepts and a final design to take home and install.

Grade Levels: 6-8

This is Rocket Science!

Are you interested in becoming a Rocket Scientist? Would you like to work for NASA, United Launch Alliance (ULA), Scaled Composites, Sierra Nevada, or SpaceX? Do you just love building really, really fast things? This workshop is for you! Come learn how to build and launch your own rocket. Gain knowledge from visiting rocketeers and learn about different opportunities to fly and compete. There are rocketry contests and activities for ALL ages. Rocket launch weather permitting. All activities are guided by NAR Safety Code.

Engineering Brightness

In this workshop students and their attending adult, will design a safe, hand held, 3D printed, sustainable lantern.  Mechanical and electrical engineering skills are not only learned, but applied, and refined using the design thinking model.

Grade Levels: 6-9

Time: 9am-1pm

Location: Preston Middle School (please note that this location differs from the other workshops offered on this date)

Introductory MiG Welding & Metalworking

Learn to weld using the GMAW (MIG) wirefeed welding process!  We will cover specific safety for welding, appropriate personal protective equipment,  and the proper technique for applying the MIG welding process.  Please come dressed to work:  workpants, cotton or wool-blend shirt, and work shoes or boots.  Everything else will be provided.  Participants will get to build a small metal project.  Several choices will be provided!
